-- A spokesperson has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Julianne
Moore will return to As the World
Turns before its finale. The star of A
Single Man and the upcoming Chloe originally
appeared on the soap from 1985 until 1988 playing both identical
half-sisters/cousins Frannie and Sabrina Hughes. It’s refreshing to see a Hollywood A-lister be proud of her daytime past. The
Oscar-nominated actress is expected to appear as Frannie, who will greet her
parents (Bob and Kim) and wish them well.
Amanda Seyfried, Moore’s co-star in Atom Egoyan’s Chloe
originated the role of a teenaged Lucy back in 2000-2001. Chloe hits theatres on March 26th. Moore recently guest starred on a couple of episodes of 30 Rock with a dreadful Bostonian accent.
What other famous alumni would you like to see drop by before the world
stops turning? Meg Ryan (ex-Betsy), Jason Biggs (ex-Pete) and Lauryn Hill (ex-Kira) don’t really have
much going on at the moment. No offense to Noelle
Beck, but the show should do whatever it can to beg Martha Byrne to return as Lily. Byrne has often stated that she
learnt a great deal about playing dual characters from watching Moore on set in the late
80s.
Check out an old clip of Frannie and Kevin (Steven Weber):
-- Daniel Cosgrove (ex-Bill, GL;
ex-Matt, Beverly Hills 90210; ex-Scott, AMC) will first air as the new Chris Hughes
(Frannie’s younger brother) on March 11th.
-- The Young and the Restless recently
won the 2010 Writers Guild Awards for outstanding achievement in writing…take
that, Silver
Chipmunk haters!
-- Camryn Grimes will return to
Y&R as Cassie’s spirit/ghost/whatever next week (Mar. 12th in Canada; 15th
in US) to visit Nick and Sharon. Honestly, let the poor girl rest in peace.
-- Former All My Children star Aiden Turner (ex-Aidan) is following in
the dance-steps of his co-stars Cameron
Mathison (Ryan) and Susan Lucci
(Erica) by appearing in the next installment of Dancing with the Stars. Did you know that the former AMC star
appeared in Geri Halliwell’s music
video for “Bag It Up” in 2000?
-- Days of our Lives fans can expect
to see a badass Nicole when Arianne
Zuker returns from her two-month maternity leave next week. Zuker told Soap Opera Digest that “The first scene
was throwing some woman against the jail room wall,” where she had a lot of fun
doing and is happy to be back at work. Nicole wants to figure out who was
behind Sydney’s
kidnapping and that “What’s killing her is that she can’t remember. It’s been riding
on her and she just wants to figure it out.” Zuker is also happy that we’ll be
see a more classic Nicole rather than the emotional and sobbing mess we had in
recent months.
-- Daytime Confidential is reporting
that John Callahan (ex-Edmund) is
heading back to Salem
as the sinister Dr. Baker who helped Nicole switch Sami and Mia’s babies.
-- Tonight’s episode of Mercy will
feature Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS).
-- You can check out the list of the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards
pre-nominations at We Love Soaps. The final list
of nominees will be announced in April.

-- Tonight marks the
premiere of Lauren Graham’s new
series, Parenthood which everyone is
really excited about. The show is based on Ron
Howard’s 1989 film and is the second television adaptation. The show also
stars some other heavy hitters, we’ve got Peter
Krause, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia and even Mae Whtiman (Ann from Arrested Development)…I guess they all
try to make up for Dax Shepard.
Here’s a clip of our former ‘Gilmore’ girl’s appearance on last night’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson:
-- It sure looks like
getting killed off Dexter was the
best thing to happen to Julie Benz.
ABC likes her so much that they’ve cast her as the female lead in
their new drama pilot, No Ordinary Family
(also starring The Shield’s Michael Chiklis). Sure, she’s been
steaming things up on Desperate
Housewives as of late, but she’ll always be Buffy’s Darla to me.
-- It really sucks that the Glee tour
isn’t hitting Canada…I’m
also missing the NYC shows by like a week. The 6-night tour will feature Cory Monteith (Finn), Lea Michele (Rachel), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Asia), Mark Saling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike Other
Asian) and Dijon Talton (Matt)…what,
no Shue?
-- Ghost Whisperer will soon
celebrate its 100th episode…meanwhile, Ugly
Betty is still cancelled and Jay
Leno returned to the Tonight Show
last night. No justice in this world I tell you. No justice.
-- I’ve never cared for programming gems like Dancing with the Stars but they landed Buzz Aldrin?!?! Really? I hope Shannen
Doherty rips Kate Gosselin to
shreds.
-- Jersey Shore’s Vinny and Snooki (along
with her boyfriend Emilio) re-enact the Purim-Party roof disaster (via MTV). This photo is seriously
something my friends and I would do. Yeah, we’re horrible people but whatevs.

-- Modern Family is heading to Hawaii this May. The family vacation will
see Jay and Gloria heading down for his birthday and Gloria surprising him by
bringing the rest of the family. The cast will fly down to Maui
this week to shoot the episode. So, I guess we can all expect Phil to get
turned on by hula dancers.
-- Nip/Tuck will be its series finale
in the US
tomorrow night but two of the show’s stars have already booked pilots. Dylan Walsh
will headline CBS’ Untitled Michael
Dinner Project while Joely Richardson has joined ABC’s The Whole Truth.
-- In other pilot news, Dermot Mulroney has
been tapped by NBC to play the lead in the Rockford
Files remake.
-- Jennifer Lopez hosted Saturday Night Live this past week and
it was actually funny (and it’s not my hangover talking). I always love it when
they decide to no get all political with their cold-open. I’m glad they called
out the horrible remake of “We Are the World,” it’s about time someone did. The
weak point had to be Lopez’s musical performances…Sure, 10 years ago she could
have impressed us with her outfits and dance moves, but after marrying Skeletor
and pumping out 2 kids, it was for the best that she performed her last number
sitting down. Don’t get me wrong, J-Lo’s still hot…but in a more Desperate Housewives sorta way. There was also a mention of Betty White during the Flag Digital Short, so there's still hope she could host soon.
-- Speaking of Desperate Housewives,
is Sam Page playing Bree’s long-lost
son? I hope so; Wisteria Lane
could use a good scandal. Page's creepy character pretty much stepped all over Andrew when he drank out of his "World's Greatest Son" coffee mug.
-- The Jersey Shore cast is making the Purim-Party disaster pretty hilarious thanks to
their tweets. Their attendance has pretty much overshadowed Chris Noth being there. “I think me and
@sn00ki felt the wrath for not being Jewish,” tweeted Vinny.
-- So Chuck is back tonight!
Tonight’s episode finds Chuck attempting to cook dinner for Hannah (Kristin Kreuk), Ellie and Captain
Awesome while Sarah tries to keep her relationship with Shaw (Brandon Routh) strictly professional.
Here’s a preview of the show’s post-Olympics return:

-- Well, they finally did
it! General Hospital’s new opening sequence
debuted during yesterday’s 12,000th episode. I think they pretty much used
leftover CGI work from General Hospital:
Night Shift. I was surprised to see Epiphany and Matt. I think the
whiteness and J.J. Abrams-esq lens flares will take some getting
used to. Not a big surprise that the Sonny/Carly/Jason/Sam sequence lasts
longer than anyone else’s. Luke still walks out of frame at the end as if Anthony Geary heading off to Amsterdam for one his
bi-monthly vacations from the show.
-- Great news, Robin Christopher is
heading back to GH as Skye on March 31st. No official word yet on the length of
her stay but she’ll be mixing things up with Luke and Tracy. Hopefully they’ll
use daytime vet in other storylines like with her ex-husband Jax. Head writer Bob Guza told TV Guide Magazine that Skye is supposed to revitalize the
Quartermaine family. Oh really Guza? Wasn’t Skye de-Quartermained years ago? He
goes on to say that “It’s hard to write GH without the Qs?” Yeah, don’t you
mean its hard to write for GH when you don’t have any extra Qs around to kill
off? Anyway, let’s hope Skye is here to stay. Christopher has played this role
on all three ABS soaps, AMC (1987-1991), OLTL (1999-2001) and GH (2001-2008)
and is also well-known for 1994-97 stint on Another
World as Lorna.
-- Michael Learned (The Walton) is also headed to GH as a
cancer patient who will interact with Patrick and Robin.
-- Stuart Damon (ex-Alan, GH;
ex-Ralph, ATWT) is heading over to Days
of our Lives as Governor Jim Ford who grants Nicole a full pardon (for
kidnapping Sydney)
after Anna blackmails him.
-- All My Children vet David Canary (Adam; ex-Stuart)
announced that he’ll be retiring and will film through April. Check out SOAPnet
for his statement. Canary has been with AMC
since 1983, after leaving Another World
where he played Steve Frame from 1981-83.
-- Alicia Minshew and Thorsten Kaye return to AMC for a limited
run this April. Kendall returns on April 9th
while Zach pops up on April 13th.
-- DaytimeConfidential.com was the
first to report that Amanda Setton (Kim; ex-Penelope, Gossip Girl) has quit One
Life to Live. It’s reported that she turned down a contract and pay
increase in favor of heading to Los
Angeles for pilot season.
-- The American soaps should take note from BBC’s EastEnders which celebrated their 25th anniversary with a live
episode last Friday. The soap revealed the identity of big bad Archie’s killer
and killed off the ginger Bradley. According to Variety, the special attracted a record-breaking 15.6 million
viewers. Check out the last few minutes of the episode:
-- Here are some behind-the-scenes shots of AMC’s Susan Lucci, Rebecca Budig and
Cameron Mathison’s spread from the
March issue of L.A. Mag:

-- Bravo! airs a brand new episode
of At the Concert Hall with Matthew Good tonight at 10pm. I had the
pleasure of attending the taping of the special back in December is it is
definite must for any Matt Good fan. Expect some new tracks from his latest
album, Vancouver (such as “Last Parade”) in
addition to a few classics like “Born Losers” and “Strange Days.” Matthew Good at the Concert Hall will
re-air this Friday, Feb. 26th at 7pm.
-- Josh Schwartz has cast Kristin Kreuk as the female lead in his new comedy pilot for CBS. Hitched is about newlyweds who are still
in the process of learning about each other while being surrounded by family
and friends. Jack Carpenter (“I Love
You Beth Cooper”) will play the male lead, while Eugene Levy while play Kreuk’s father-in-law. Kreuk is also rumored
to be dropping by Fringe later this season.
-- While I think Katee Sackhoff is
all kinds of awesome, her current storyline on 24 isn’t all that. The actress is set to star in a new ABC crime drama pilot
about a female detective who teams up with a disgraced former cop to solve
crimes and a conspiracy.
-- I’m not usually one to update you all on Hilary Duff, even if she is engaged to a hockey player, but these stills from her new ABC
Family (Beauty and the Briefcase) with The O.C.’s Chris Carmack (Luke Ward, bitch) movie
caught my attention because her co-star is former MuchMusic VJ Amanda Walsh!

-- Will Wheaton is headed back to the Big Bang Theory later this season as
Sheldon’s nemesis.
-- FX has picked up a second season of Archer, a show that we all really need
to start watching.
-- Parks & Recreation isn’t back
for another week (boo), but check out Aziz Ansari’s first single, Aaaaaaaangry, from the Raaaaaaaandy mixtape (with TV on the
Radio’s Dave Sitek)…Raaaaaaaaandy!

-- It took a year, but Less Than Kind is finally back on
television. HBO Canada has acquired the Winnipeg-based and shot series from
Citytv and will premiere its second season tonight at 8:30pm. Tonight’s episode
picks up from where the season finale left off, Sheldon and his family rushes
his father, Sam, to the hospital after he suffers a heart attack.
-- Movieline compares the last season of Lost to that of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its pretty convincing. You’ve got your
shape-shifting big bad, conflicted blond anti-hero and a morally gray character
that is forced to stab people.
-- Now that Lost is bringing Maggie Grace back, I just might watch.
-- Conan O’Brien’s reps have told the Hollywood Reporter that he’ll be getting ready for a tour. Let’s
hope he comes to Canada.
-- Tina Fey will be hosting Saturday Night Live again in April. Which is great and all, but how
long before they ask Betty White?
-- We’ve got a brand new podcast for you! In this week’s edition of the TV Casualty Podcast, Kat and I discuss
the season premiere of The Amazing Race
and our mutual love for Community.
Later, Jen stops by to discuss this week’s episode of Lost. You can check it out here.
-- Here’s a clip of Juliette Lewis from
a recent episode of The Hour where
she totally knew bloggers would make fun of her ridiculously giant flower scarf
she’s wearing. So here you go Jules. Anyway, I spent most of my childhood
hating Juliette because how horrible she treated Uncle
Buck. Well, I recently realized that Juliette Lewis
wasn’t even in that film and that I had spent twenty years hating/being afraid
of her for no reason at all. Juliette, I’m sorry. I should have known better,
even as a five-year old.

Last week, Jon Cassar, a former producer and director for 24 appeared at Ottawa’s Algonquin College as a keynote speaker for the
institute’s Career Week. Cassar, an alumnus of Algonquin’s
Television-Broadcasting program shared a few stories of his journey from Ottawa, to Toronto and then
Los Angeles as well
as how the industry works.
TV Watercooler reader J.P. Lemieux
was on hand for Cassar’s speech at his school and here’s his recap of the
event:
“Cassar first explained how he started in the business as a camera. This was a
hard time for him as his young family was dependant on him. His experience asa
steady cam operator in Ottawa
led him to be hired by influential people in the city, including former PM
Brian Mulroney. This lead him to Toronto,
where he would work on such shows as Forever
Knight and La Femme Nikita. Then,
he was off to LA where he worked on 24.
He began working on 24 during the
start of the second season and stayed until the conclusion of the seventh. He
left to follow his dream, which was to work on feature films.
Cassar then opened up for a Q&A period where he shared that he can get many
free drinks because restaurant owners confuse him for Joe Mantegna (from Criminal
Minds). He also explained that the industry can be harsh and cruel. When
asked about reality TV, Cassar mentioned that he wasn’t a big follower but does
watch Survivor regularly. He also
explained that many people in the industry were very happy at how the Jay Leno experiment turned out.
He was a very nice man who stayed after his address for quite some time to
answer more questions for the crowd as well as sign autograph and pose for
pictures. All in all, it was a pleasure to meet him and I wish him well on his
feature film career.”
Since leaving 24 last year, Cassar has directed episodes of Fringe, Criminal Minds, Human Target and Lost in addition to a few films in development. Cassar reportedly shares a close friendship with Kiefer Sutehrland, who gave him his 2006 SAG Award as a sign of his appreciation.

-- The 2010 Brit Awards took place last night. Here’s a clip of Lady Gaga performing “Telephone” and
“In the Dark.”
Expect my review up later in the week. For those who can’t catch it online,
MuchMusic will actually air the awards (gasp), but it won’t be until March 4th
(airing at 7pm, 9pm & Midnight). That photo above is a still from her new
video, “Telephone” which should drop any day now. It’s her second duet with
Beyonce.
-- Colin Egglesfield (Auggie, Melrose Place; ex-Josh, All My Children) will replace Daniel Cosgrove (soon-to-be-Chris, As the World Turns; ex-Bill, Guiding
Light; ex-Matt, Beverly Hills 90210)
as a young William Walker on the Brothers
& Sisters flashback episode that will air on April 11th from 9-11pm.
Egglesfield’s Auggie will last appear on Melrose
Place next month. According to Soap
Opera Digest,Cosgrove had to back out due to a scheduling conflict.
-- Jersey Shore shocker! Jenni “JWOWW” Farley appeared on Fox News’s web show, The Strategy Room and revealed that she isn’t really
Italian…she’s half Spanish and Irish. Yeah, like “Farley” made her any more
Sicilian. JWOWW also revealed that our girl Snooki is actually Chilean.
-- Another shocker: Ronnie and Sammi are over.
-- The CW may have picked up Supernatural
for a sixth season, but creator Eric
Kripke will be stepping down as showrunner. Kripke
previously told Entertainment Weekly
last August that he always intended a five-season run for the show.
-- Looks like everyone has figured out Michael
Ausiello’s latest blind item about feuding costars.
Everyone pretty much suspects that former Wicked
thespians Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel have asked the producers
of Glee to not make them act opposite
each other when the show returns in April.
-- Super Channel has picked up the Canadian rights to TNT’s Southland. The pay channel will air all
7 episodes from its first season (which aired on NBC and CTV) but with extended
scenes before airing the second season (which consists of 6 episodes).
-- Check out the latest TV Casualty
Podcast where Kat and I discuss Survivor:
Heroes vs. Villains and The Bachelor and
later Jen drops by to talk about last week’s episode of Lost. Listen to it here.
-- The US
(and therefore Canadian) networks are mostly airing reruns tonight except for NBC
(Olympics) and FOX (Human Target and American Idol) so that means no new Modern Family or Ugly Betty tonight. I guess it’s time to catch up on some
downloads.

-- I decided to check out The Amazing Race for the first time this
past Sunday because this round features Big
Brother 11 couple Jeff & Jordan. Sure, the duo aren’t exactly the
smartest but every BB11 fan knows that these two can win competitions, so maybe
them winning the first round shouldn’t come across as such a surprise?
Anyway, the pair certainly isn’t the “dumbest” of the bunch, CBS has allowed
former Miss Teen South Caroline Caite
Upton (yes, the “such as” retard). How funny is it that the
other Jordan
knows her infamous speech by heart? The dumbest move of the night has to belong
to the Cowboys who knew they were going to Chile but exchanged Brazilian
currency.
-- The CW has renewed Gossip Girl, Supernatural,
Vampire Diaries, 90210 and America’s Next Top
Model for next season. No word yet on Smallville,
Melrose Place, Life Unexpected and One Tree
Hill.
-- Life Unexpected’s executive
producer Liz Tigelaar told TV Guide that they’re planning
on doing a cliffhanger for the season finale, despite knowing whether or not
they’ll be back for a second season. “We go out big. It’s not going to be like,
‘Come back to find out what happened,’ but it will be like ‘Oh my God, that
happened. It definitely launches us into next season with a lot of conflict,
complications and obstacles” says Tigelaar.
-- Production of 24 has been halted this week so that Kiefer Sutherland can undergo surgery
after a cyst near his kidney ruptured last week. I’m sure he’ll be back in
action within an hour.
-- Looks like Brody Jenner has moved on with another canuck…please
don’t let Avril Lavigne appear on The Hills.
-- Stephen Martines is headed to Vampire Diaries as a new vampire named Frederick. Soap fans will remember Martines
(who also used to go by Coltin Scott) as Nikolas #2 on General Hospital (1999-2003) and as Tony on Guiding Light (2003-2005).
-- Entertainment Tonight aired a new
promo for Glee’s Madonna episode…is it April yet?!

-- Another World alum
Dahlia Salem will join the cast of General Hospital
on Feb. 24th in the recurring role of Federal Prosecutor Claire Walsh.
-- GH has also cast a new Quartermaine! Annie Ilonzeh has been cast as Maya
Ward, Edward’s great-granddaughter. Maya will make her Port Charles debut on
March 31st and will be a medical intern who is expected to mix things up with
either Lucky or Ethan.
-- Lindze Letherman is also on her
way back to GH on March 26th as Georgie’s ghost (sadly). Maxie will have a
vision of her dearly-departed little sister and will act as her conscious. Honestly,
they should just resurrect the character. Georgie and Emily should have never
been killed off by the Text Message Killer. Letherman last appeared in December
2007.
-- Even more GH casting news…Bradley
Cole (ex-Jeffrey/Richard, Guiding
Light) will appear as Kiefer’s father, Carlton Bauer. Yes, they actually have
a character named Kiefer Bauer…you didn’t expect head writer Bob Guza to be original, right?
-- Scott Reeves (Steve, GH) has been
upped to contract.
-- And finally, General Hospital
will be getting brand new opening credits! The new opening will coincide with
the soap’s 12,000th episode on Tuesday, February 23rd. Hope they never do that
last men shot again…more that half of those characters were killed off in
mob-related violence.
-- Meanwhile, Stuart Damon (ex-Alan,
GH; ex-Ralph, ATWT) will appear on Days
of our Lives next month as Gov. Jim Ford.
-- Judi
Evans will also be returning to DAYS next month as Adrienne. She’ll always
be Another World’s Paulina Cory to
me.
-- Susan Walters (Diane) will return
to The Young and the Restless on
February 25th and 26th (Canadian episode dates).
-- Eric Braeden (the Great Victor
Newman) recently celebrated his 30th anniversary on Y&R. Here are a few
pictures from the party that was held in Los
Angeles on Feb. 3rd. Check out CBS and SOAPnet for some more.
