Parks and Rec
I said it last week, but last night's episode of Parks and Recreation pretty much solidified it: it's the funniest show on TV this season. Thank God for Nick Offerman, who plays Ron F**cking Swanson so perfectly deadpan that you actually believe in the ridiculous things he says, which makes it that much funnier. And I generally don't like Megan Mullally, but seeing Offerman's real-life wife play Swanson's ex-wife made me laugh harder than I've laughed at any show this year. Seriously, people: start watching it. Alan Sepinwall has a fantastic breakdown of the episode here, and EW has an interview with Aziz Anzari about his upcoming comedy special.
Survivor
Another show that had a good episode last night -- with the merge, all of the teams began scheming like CRAZY, because Galu couldn't keep it together. Come on, guys, you band together, vote off the weaker team and then start voting off your own guys. It was great to see Erik blindsided, especially since he had the hidden immunity idol and could have played it. He was so smug at tribal council and kept talking about how much Foa Foa sucked, so it was fantastic to see that dumb-butt smile wiped off his face. Of course, everyone this season is so unlikeable that I wouldn't have minded it if Erik had played the idol, but as long as there's some kind of blindside that forces someone I don't like to go home, then I don't mind. (And, of course, Russell continues to be a completely shitty player, even though he thinks he's great. Way to play the idol when you didn't have to. Sadly, Jeff Probst still frickin' loves this guy and is trying to convince us that Russell playing the idol was a good move. Keep dreaming, Probst.)
30 Rock
I love this list of Tina Fey's favourite jokes from 30 Rock, even if she does mix up Charles Barkley with Shaquille O'Neal. "Never go with a hippie to a second location" is one of the funniest lines ever written.
Gossip Girl
Lady Gaga is preparing for her big Gossip Girl cameo (she even changed the lyrics to one of her songs!), and from the sounds of it, she's taking it really, really seriously. You know, considering this is Gossip Girl we're talking about.
Evil Geniuses
io9 has a great list of the dumbest evil geniuses pop culture has to offer. Dr. Horrible, obviously, makes the list - that's a no-brainer, much like the doctor himself - but I was very, very pleased to see the inclusion of The Monarch from The Venture Brothers. If you haven't gotten into that show, do it - the first season is just OK, but after that, the show is brilliant, and the current fourth season is the best thing they've ever done.
Have a good weekend!
