The Hills: Thanks for a great birthday, guys

Was I the only one who felt really, really bad for Stephanie Pratt last night? All she wanted was to celebrate her birthday and for her friends and family to care enough about her to put aside their petty grievances for ONE NIGHT. Instead, everybody acts like entitled jerks - and then they blame HER for their own stubbornness. Ugh. Do you know how awful you have to be for me to side with STEPHANIE PRATT? God, I hate this show.

Stephanie invites Lauren, Audrina and Lo to her party, and Lauren makes it clear that she doesn't want to go if Spencer and Heidi will be there. Steph says that she hasn't heard anything from them, so she's assuming they're going.

But, because this is The Hills, producers have made it very clear that Spencer and Heidi will go to the party whether they like it or not. Er, I mean, Spencer and Heidi decide ALL BY THEMSELVES that they will go because Stephanie is family, after all. Now, if you're thinking this shows a surprising amount of maturity, hold up - they're only doing it because it will be the last time they EVER TALK TO HER EVER because God, she's so disrespectful for being friends with someone they don't like.

So at the party, Lauren, Lo, Audrina, Spencer, Frankie and Doug are there. First of all, shut up Doug, because you're boring. But anyway, then Speidi show up with a huge, obnoxious bouquet of balloons. Which you know they only bought because then they could be like, "LOOK, we care SO MUCH ABOUT YOU and you still had the gall to invite someone we don't like to YOUR party." And that's pretty much exactly what they say, asking Stephanie to get rid of the obnoxious girls, i.e. Lauren and Lo. Ugh.

Brody makes this big show about how he's leaving because he doesn't want drama, like, maybe if you don't like drama, you shouldn't make such a big production out of leaving. Ugh. Lauren and Lo leave soon afterwards, because God forbid, they realize that they are there to make STEPHANIE happy on her BIRTHDAY.

The next day, Spencer goes over to Stephanie's to, once again, bitch about what a traitor she is and how he wishes he could make her not be his sister anymore. She quite rightly points out that this is a pretty crappy thing to say, but Spencer is his usual self and cares only about telling Stephanie what a terrible person she is for making her own decisions and not supporting every boneheaded her brother makes.

When Stephanie sees Lauren in class and completely apologizes to her and makes it clear that she didn't know they were going to show up (because they hadn't even told her they were going to show up), Lauren does that thing she always does. You know, the "Oh, no, it's totally fine, but I'm still really angry, but no, it's fine, REALLY, except that I'm pissed."

Oh, oh, and then Lauren delivers this gem of compassion and friendship: "It's no secret that all my friends tell me I shouldn't trust you, and you just set them back on that rampage."

Really? REALLY? Because her brother showed up to a party that was supposed to be about Stephanie's birthday? "Oh, Lauren, you shouldn't trust her; she assumes that her friends are capable of acting like grownups for one night."

Actually, come to think of it, that was a pretty stupid assumption on Stephanie's part. She really should know better.
